The Beginnings

childrenThe ministry was founded about 4 years ago after the Lord had miraculously healed Annet Kayongo from terminal cancer. Unsure of what the future held Annet took time out and went to Prayer Mountain to seek the Lord. There she felt that the Lord was telling her to go back to her village and tell people about Jesus. Annet obeyed and many people became Christians, they begged Annet to start a church there and so she started the Believers Church.

It quickly became evident to Annet that there were many children around, poorly dressed with apparently no-one to look after them, she could not ignore the problem and so together with her husband Godfrey, New Hope for Africa came into being.

When Jean Swain from the King´s Church, Merseyside and Gill Gifford from Cutting Edge Ministries first stayed with Pastor Annet in 2004 the work was rapidly taking place and the Lord touched both these women´s hearts. At that time there were about 120 children being looked after i.e. fed, clothed and educated. The following year Gill raised a large sum of money to help fund the orphanage through her conference offering and whilst they were again staying there the Lord woke Jean up during the night and told her to start a scheme to fund the orphanage from the U.K. Unsure of how to go about this she shared the vision with her church on her return, people there responded and so New Hope for Africa in the U.K. was born.

teachersAt present there are at least 345 children, many of them HIV orphans with many also having the disease also there are 24 children who escaped from the war zone in Northern Uganda. Every child has a testimony of having to endure the most awful situations but those from the war zone have the most horrific of all, some seeing their families cut up into pieces and burnt others literally had to hide underneath dead bodies in order to escape. Jean has both written testimonies and video recordings of some of these tales.

There are now 12 teachers, a matron, 3 cooks & a watchman/water carrier employed, the cost for their employment alone is £500 & they really need at least another 3 teachers. Each uniform cost around £3.

Breakfast consists of "porridge" (maize flour, sugar & water), lunch is the same with beans & cassava (tree root) & sometimes potatoes, supper is a repeat of lunch. Rice & occasionally meat is given on Sundays. The cost of just the food is £1,000 or about £2.50 per month per child

feedingCutting Edge Ministries have raised sufficient money to build foundations for a proper orphanage building, however the work has had to stop until more becomes available. At present the girls are sleeping in what is hoped to become a clinic whilst the boys sleep in converted chicken houses. The younger children share 3 to a mattress (each mattress costs about £9)

Our regular monthly donations at present only adds up to about £350 so you can see we fall far below the necessary target, other monies come from selling produce they have grown and that raised from sales from Annet´s Bridal Shop. New Hope for Africa is a non-profit making organization every penny given goes towards this work, no donation is considered too small!

"For I was hungry, and you fed me, I was thirsty and you gave me a drink, I was a stranger and you invited me into your home. I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you cared for me"

I assure you, when you did it to the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me"
Matthew 25:35-36, 40
